परिचय

बायोबेस्ड additives नवीकरणीय जैविक संसाधनों से पूर्णतः या आंशिक रूप से प्राप्त कार्यात्मक सामग्री हैं जिनका उपयोग प्लास्टिक और संबंधित सामग्रियों की प्रसंस्करण, प्रदर्शन, स्वरूप, स्थिरता या जीवन-अंत व्यवहार को संशोधित करने के लिए किया जाता है। प्लास्टिक मूल्य श्रृंखला में, ये तेजी से जीवाश्म-आधारित additives के ड्रॉप-इन विकल्प या नए-कार्य सामग्री के रूप में काम करते हैं जो निम्न-कार्बन फॉर्मूलेशन, biopolymers के साथ बेहतर अनुकूलता और कुछ मामलों में रोगाणुरोधी, UV-सुरक्षात्मक, एंटीस्टैटिक या ज्वाला-प्रतिरोधी प्रदर्शन जैसी अतिरिक्त कार्यात्मकताएँ सक्षम बनाते हैं।

यह श्रेणी एकल रासायनिक वर्ग के बजाय व्यापक है। इसमें बायोबेस्ड plasticizers, lubricants, stabilizers, सर्फेक्टेंट, flame retardants, रोगाणुरोधी एजेंट, antistatic agents, एंटीफॉगिंग एजेंट और विशेष rheology modifiers आदि शामिल हैं। वाणिज्यिक और अनुसंधान गतिविधि पैकेजिंग, coatings, adhesives, lubricants, व्यक्तिगत देखभाल, निर्माण, ऑटोमोटिव और चिकित्सा-संबंधी अनुप्रयोगों में तेजी से बढ़ी है, जिसमें पैकेजिंग को सामान्यतः सबसे बड़ा मांग खंड माना जाता है। स्थिरता एक केंद्रीय चालक है, लेकिन प्रदर्शन, लागत, प्रमाणन और जीवन-अंत अनुकूलता अपनाने में निर्णायक बनी रहती है।
