はじめに
ポリウレタン 熱可塑性樹脂は一般に熱可塑性ポリウレタン（TPU）と呼ばれ、ゴムのような弾性と熱可塑性再加工性を兼ね備えた溶融加工可能なポリウレタン エラストマーのファミリーです。これらは、熱可塑性樹脂のように成形・押出・リサイクル可能でありながら、高い耐摩耗性、靭性、柔軟性、優れた低温性能を発揮するため、プラスチック産業において重要なニッチを占めています。
より広範なポリウレタンの世界において、TPUは熱可塑性系統であり、不可逆的に硬化する熱硬化性ポリウレタン材料とは対照的です。この材料の性能は、柔軟なソフトセグメントが弾性を提供し、ハードセグメントが強度、寸法安定性、耐裂性を提供する物理的架橋を形成する、セグメント化ブロック共重合体構造に由来します。
TPUは複数の化学ファミリーを持つ非常に汎用性の高いプラットフォーム材料に発展しており、特にポリエステル系、ポリエーテル系、ポリカプロラクトン系のグレードが注目され、それぞれ加水分解耐性、柔軟性、加工性のバランスが異なります。この調整可能性により、TPUは履物、ケーブルジャケット、ホース、シール、フィルムから医療用チューブ、ウェアラブル、保護スキン、工業部品に至るまで、さまざまな製品の中心となっています。
持続可能性はTPUにとって重要な課題です。この材料は機械的に耐久性があり、原理的には機械的再加工によるリサイクルが可能ですが、依然として石油化学原料に大きく依存しており、多くのグレードではイソシアネート化学に関連する環境・職業管理が必要です。現在のイノベーションは、バイオベースポリオール、低炭素生産ルート、リサイクル適合配合、および長寿命・容易回収を目的としたTPUシステムに集中しています。
歴史と開発
ポリウレタンは1930年代に初めて開発され、TPUは熱可塑性方法で加工可能な初期のエラストマー系ポリウレタン形態の一つとして登場しました。その重要性は、従来のエラストマーに典型的な遅い硬化サイクルを必要とせずに、要求の厳しい用途でゴムを置き換えられる材料をプラスチック産業が求めたことで高まりました。
TPUの商業的拡大は、ジイソシアネート化学、ポリオール選択、反応加工制御の改善に続き、ハードネス、弾性、熱的挙動を広範囲に調整可能になりました。その結果、TPUは特殊エラストマーから、消費財、自動車、医療、工業分野で使用される主要なエンジニアリング材料へと進化しました。
