परिचय

कांच के रेशे पिघले कांच से खींचे गए महीन अकार्बनिक तंतु हैं और मुख्य रूप से पॉलिमर कंपोजिट में सुदृढ़ीकरण के रूप में उपयोग किए जाते हैं, साथ ही इन्सुलेशन, निस्पंदन मीडिया और विशेष तकनीकी वस्त्रों के रूप में। प्लास्टिक उद्योग में, ये सबसे महत्वपूर्ण सहायक सामग्रियों में से एक हैं क्योंकि वे अपेक्षाकृत कम लागत वाले thermoplastics और thermosets को बहुत अधिक कठोरता, आयामी स्थिरता, गर्मी प्रतिरोध और भार वहन क्षमता वाली सामग्रियों में बदल देते हैं।

इतिहास और विकास

कांच के रेशे व्यापक कांच निर्माण और कपड़ा प्रयोग से उभरे, औद्योगिक उत्पादन व्यावहारिक हो गया जब डायरेक्ट-मेल्ट ड्राइंग और प्लैटिनम-रोडियम बुशिंग तकनीक ने लगातार फिलामेंट निर्माण को सक्षम किया। पहले की प्रक्रियाएं रीमेल्टिंग या आंतरायिक विधियों पर अधिक निर्भर थीं, जबकि मल्टी-होल बुशिंग्स के माध्यम से निरंतर ड्राइंग उच्च-वॉल्यूम उत्पादन के लिए मानक मार्ग बन गई।

प्रौद्योगिकी 20वीं सदी के मध्य के बाद प्रबलित प्लास्टिक के विकास के साथ परिपक्व हुई, जब कांच फाइबर को पॉलिएस्टर, epoxy और बाद में थर्मोप्लास्टिक मैट्रिक्स के साथ जोड़ने से संरचनात्मक कंपोजिट का एक प्रमुख नया वर्ग बना। समय के साथ, उत्पाद विकास सरल सुदृढ़ीकरण से अत्यधिक इंजीनियर फाइबर्स, साइजिंग्स और सतह उपचारों की ओर बढ़ा जो विशिष्ट रेजिन, प्रसंस्करण विधियों और स्थायित्व आवश्यकताओं के अनुरूप बनाए गए।
