Introducción
Pigmentos pearlescentes son pigmentos de efecto diseñados para producir una apariencia suave, lustrosa y perlada mediante reflexión e interferencia de la luz en lugar de absorción simple. Se utilizan ampliamente en plásticos, recubrimientos, tintas, cosméticos y materiales decorativos porque pueden crear brillo, profundidad y efectos visuales dependientes del ángulo que los pigmentos de color convencionales no pueden reproducir.
En la industria de los plásticos, los pigmentos pearlescentes se valoran como aditivo estético de alto impacto para piezas moldeadas, películas y envases, especialmente donde la apariencia premium está ligada a la diferenciación de marca. Las familias comerciales principales son pigmentos a base de mica recubiertos con óxidos metálicos, particularmente dióxido de titanio y óxidos de hierro, aunque las líneas de productos más nuevas también utilizan sustratos sintéticos como alúmina y sílice para ajustar el brillo, la pureza del color y la durabilidad.
Su desarrollo refleja una evolución más amplia en los pigmentos de efecto desde polvos minerales naturales hacia estructuras multicapa diseñadas con espesor óptico controlado y geometría de partículas. Al mismo tiempo, estos pigmentos se sitúan dentro de los debates actuales sobre sostenibilidad porque son de base mineral, a menudo requieren mucha energía para fabricarse y pueden complicar el reciclaje cuando se usan en altas concentraciones o en envases multicapa, aunque también ofrecen efectos decorativos duraderos que pueden prolongar la vida útil del producto y reducir la necesidad de decoración secundaria.
